It’s that time of year again, when the big stores are ready to get in their new stocks for the New Year, so the January Sales begin. The stores this year are expected to give massive discounts, some up to 70% of the marked retail price and with the VAT reduced you’ll be making even more of a saving. So while it’s cold outside you can get some great hot bargains shopping online with the January Sales.
Many of the big stores including M&S, Currys, Comet, John Lewis, Debenhams will be having January Sales, so if your looking to purchase a large electrical item or new piece of furniture then don’t try and struggle through the crowds simply shop online for the best bargain at knock down prices or you may be looking for that designer outfit for a certain up coming event.
Debenhams
Debenhams is a British-based retailer operating under a department store format, it was formed in 1778 by Messrs Flint and Clark and as of July 2008 the company had 147 stores across the UK and Ireland. They supply homeware, furniture, cosmetics and a wealth of fashion from designers such as Jasper Conran, John Richmond, John Rocha, Betty Jackson, Julien MacDonald and many more.
Currys
Currys is an electrical retailer in the UK and the Republic of Ireland which is owned by DSG International Plc, with 295 superstores and 73 high street stores. In April 2006 it was announced that Dixons stores (expect in Ireland) would be rebranded as “Currys.digital”. They supply house hold appliances and home electronics.

John Lewis
John Lewis is a major UK retailer which operates John Lewis department stores, Waitrose supermarkets and the direct services company Greenbee. The business was founded in 1864 when John Lewis opened up a draper’s shop in Oxford Street, London which developed into a department store. They supply high quality fashion, furnishing, household goods, flowers, cosmetics and food.

Marks and Spencer
Marks and Spencer’s are one of the UK leading retailers, they employ over 75,000 people in the UK and abroad and have over 600 UK stores. They are the number one provider of womenswear and lingerie in the UK, and are rapidly growing in the market share in menswear, kidswear and home. They also supply fresh produce and groceries to partly-prepared meals and ready meals.

Dixons
Dixons is an electrical retailer in the UK and Republic of Ireland, owned by the DSG International Plc (formerly Dixons group). The first Dixons was opened by Charles Kalms in Southend as a photographic studio in 1937. In April 2006 Dixons announced that they were removing the brand form the UK high Street and would only be using the Currys brand, branded as Currys.digital. They supply household appliances to computers and gaming consoles.
Early Learning Centre
Early Learning Centre opened it’s first shop in the mid 1970’s and now have 215 shops around the UK and over 80 in 19 other countries including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Canada and Australia. They supply toys for young children and they work in partnership with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents to ensure their toys are of the highest standard. Their philosophy is learning through play, all their shops devote Tuesday mornings to “playtime” which allows parents to bring their children and play test the toys and take part in organized activities in the store.
Hamleys
Hamleys is named after William Hamley who dreamed of opening the best toy shop in the world and in 1760 he founded a toy shop called “Noah’s Ark” in London. Today Hamleys is one of the world’s largest toy shops. The shop is considered a tourist attraction and has about five million visitors a year.
Most of the big stores start their sales on Boxing Day right through to near the end of January and some stores are even open on New Year’s Day! What are the January sales?
Well these are we’re you can get some great bargains, although once dedicated mostly to clearance sales the January Sales now comprise both winter close-out sales some great promotions, most of the UK’s biggest retailers have had 20% discount days in the pre-Christmas price war, but from Boxing Day onwards the discounts are expected to be greater with additional price cuts in the final few days but if you’re looking for a certain item to purchase then make sure you buy early don’t try and hold out to long incase they have low stock and you miss out.
Shopping online for the January Sales is a convenient way of getting that great bargain and with out trying to fight the crowds, you can drink a coffee whilst you’re browsing for that amazing must have bargain. Prices are slashed on clothing, electronics, home furnishing and everything in-between.
